Six-Months Certificate Course (Bridge) in Primary Teacher Education for the Teachers of Primary Schools appointed with B.Ed. Degree

Objectives of the Programme

Hon’ble Supreme Court vide its judgment dated 08.04.2024 in M.A. Diary No: 4303/2024 in Civil Appeal No. 5068 of 2023 (Devesh Sharma vs. Union of India & Ors.), issued the following directions:

  • To develop an understanding of the primary school and primary school child.
  • To develop an understanding of various perspectives of learning and how knowledge is constructed by a primary school child.
  • To design content, evolve pedagogies, comprehend the context of learning and organize curricular experiences.
  • To interpret education of primary school children in continuum and establish linkages with the early childhood and adolescence.
  • To plan pedagogy in different curricular areas according to the developmental level of children and that of the nature of the discipline.
  • To address diversities in the classrooms with respect to language, gender, disability and socio-cultural and economic context.
  • To analyze and apply the emerging technologies in the learning and teaching in primary teacher education.
  • To critically analyze and reflect on assessment practices and design age-appropriate assessment tools for a 360° holistic assessment of primary children.

Eligibility Criteria & Instructions for the Participants

The 6 Months Certificate Course (Bridge) in Primary Teacher Education focus on the professional development of in- service primary teachers having B.Ed. to become eligible for teaching at primary level with the following objectives-

  • National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) shall design such course under overall supervision of the MoE, UoI
  • Appointees, whose appointments were made on the basis of B.Ed. as a valid qualification between 28.06.2018 to 11.08.2023, must undergo this course to retain their eligibility.
  • Failure to complete the course within timeframe given by the concerned educational authorities will invalidate the appointment of such candidates.
  • This Bridge course will not be valid for the teachers seeking subsequent employments as primary teachers.

Structure of Assessment and Evaluation in school experience

Instruction for 6 Month Bridge Course
    WORKING DAYS
  • There shall be at least 20 teaching days for the school experience in a primary school.
  • There shall be at least 10 days for contact classes in addition to the 20 days of school experience.
  • The minimum attendance of teachers shall be 80% for school experience.
    MODE OF TRANSACTION
  • The NIOS will prepare the guidelines for the transaction in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode including certification of Six Months Certificate Course (Bridge) in Primary Teacher Education (PTE) for the Teachers of Primary Schools appointed with B.Ed. Degree.
